Calling on Bergen County Canada goose supporters to attend a panel discussion on Canada geese on March 4th, which is open to the general public. **
The Northeast New Jersey Watershed Alliance is holding a panel discussion on Canada geese from 7 to 9 p.m. March 4 at the Bergen County Community Services Building, 327 E. Ridgewood Ave., Paramus. Representatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the state Division of Fish and Wildlife, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Geese Peace will serve as panelists. http://www.northjersey.com/news/health/14304357.html
** Although this article in The Record - http://tinyurl.com/2pgg4c - appears benign enough, the statement "Still, resident Canada geese are considered a substantial problem in Bergen County" raises concern. Meetings of this nature are an opportunity for the USDA and Fish and Wildlife Service to vilify the geese. With tongue in cheek, these agencies promote non-lethal goose management techniques but in fact, they are responsible for numerous gassing and slaughtering round ups in New Jersey. Round up contracts garner revenue for their coffers. GeesePeace, whose non-lethal goose abatement program has proven successful, is a discussion panelist but is out-numbered 3 to 1 by pro-kill agencies. Consequently, if you are a Bergen County goose supporter and are in a position to attend this meeting, your presence, along with feedback, would be greatly appreciated.
If you have any questions, please contact Canada Geese New Jersey at mail@canadageesenewjersey.com
